VoiceBox Safety Recall campaigns unlock an additional £1.2m in just 12 months

Published: April 2025

Our VoiceBox Safety Recall marketing campaigns that used vehicle recalls to re-engage lapsed customers have generated an additional £1.2m in aftersales revenue within just 12 months.

On average, the campaigns saw 21% of customers previously inactive for two years go on to make a recall booking, with 5% having subsequently returned for their routine maintenance appointments since reactivation. Notably, over 120 recall customers also went on to make a new car enquiry, bringing them back into the sales cycle

Outstanding recalls provide an entirely legitimate and GDPR-compliant basis for proactive communication with lapsed customers. However, identifying suitable individuals and then making contact has traditionally been very laborious and time-intensive. Automaton now makes it possible to quickly and easily identify any lapsed customers with outstanding recall work and then issue tailored messages that are proven to drive engagement and conversions.

Our VoiceBox Safety Recall solution simplifies the process of identifying which customers to contact. An initial database cleanse ensures vehicle ownership information is up-to-date, before the identification of outstanding recalls through our partnership with Auto Data Solutions and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). VoiceBox then aligns the datasets to trigger hyper-targeted email and SMS messages to actively encourage bookings.

The automated messages can prompt a check for recall work with GOV.UK for added reassurance, and simultaneously offer a complimentary health check, opening the door for upselling and the restart of scheduled service work, with an average additional upsell value of £134.

These campaigns provide a strong opportunity for retailers to boost workshop utilisation rates and maximise capacity during quieter periods. It has been proposed that a car should fail its MOT if it has an outstanding safety recall – if that measure comes into force, demand for this type of check will increase markedly. Over the past 30 years, OEMs have issued over 5,000 recall notices affecting 39 million vehicles and, with the rapid increases in vehicle technology alongside the growth of new hybrid and electric vehicles, we don’t anticipate these numbers will reduce.
